This week, women leaders in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) from 46 nations arrived in the United States as part of the “Hidden No More: Empowering Women Leaders in STEM” initiative, an International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) by the Department of State.
From October 26 to November 16, 2024, participants will travel to Washington, DC; Boston, MA; Chicago, IL; Durham and Greensboro, NC; Huntsville, AL; Orlando, Pensacola, and St. Petersburg, FL; and Los Angeles, CA. Along the way, they’ll meet with experts and advocates in STEM fields, discussing the impact of women in science and strategies to enhance opportunities for women and girls in STEM education and careers.
Highlights include discussions with representatives from the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, Vital Voices, National Geographic, Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory, MIT, Northwestern University, and Disney Studios, where they’ll explore storytelling and innovation in science and technology.
Inspired by the acclaimed 2016 film Hidden Figures, this initiative spotlights the historic and ongoing contributions of women in STEM, sparking conversation on equality in STEM fields. Since its inception in 2017, the program has brought together 235 women from 119 countries, empowering them to lead and inspire diverse representation in STEM.
The IVLP, run by the Department of State, is the U.S. government’s flagship professional exchange program. For media inquiries, contact the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs at ECA-Press@state.gov.
